With more than 400 festivals throughout the year, Louisiana celebrates just about everything that contributes to the state’s unique culture: music, history and, of course, food. This spring is an outstanding time to visit the state for festival-going. Along with the gorgeous weather and blooming flora, fun times and great eats can be discovered almost every weekend.
In April, catch Ponchatoula’s Strawberry Festival and try the sweet red berry chocolate-covered, deep-fried and in shortcakes, pies, daiquiris and beers. If you prefer things spicy, New Iberia’s Cajun Hot Sauce Festival attracts sauces from all over the country and the hottest Cajun and zydeco music.
If seafood is your game, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival features 30 Cajun and zydeco bands, Cajun cuisine and crawfish served every possible way. The Franklin Parish Catfish Festival in Winnsboro is frying 4,000 pounds of catfish amidst strolling street performers and live music, and the Amite Oyster Festival is a full weekend of entertainment and delicious oysters prepared in a variety of dishes.
The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is probably as well-known for its impressive culinary offerings as for its big-name musical performers. Culinary masterpieces from all over the state are lined up for you, ready for you to partake of them while listening to your favorite musicians.
The events mentioned here are only a sample of the celebrations on the menu—visit LouisianaTravel.com for dates and a comprehensive list of festival feasts!
